The “Outpost” is the name of an irregular research and drill station that has been established in a former smuggler headquarter within the Tau-Ceti System. The smugglers operated from a small asteroid within the Tau-Ceti system, intercepting the communication between Epsilon-Base and the various space ships to get first to reach mineral deposits, quickly exploit them and transport the raw material back to Earth. At least this was their plan, which was quickly put to an end.
However the abandoned smuggler head quarters on the asteroid raised the interest of some researchers and planetary scientist that wanted to escape the drill and discipline of the Exploration Corps. Thus they occupied the old smuggler headquarters and set an science station to their liking, doing the research they consider adequate and not what a cooperate overlord thinks shall be done.
The free wheeling attitude attracted a lot of likewise mind people, slowing growing the number of scientists at the station. Having set-up IR and Radio Astronomy Instruments, observing Tau-Ceti and neighbouring stars, black holes, Galaxy and Pulsars already some break-through discoveries have been made.
The two drill stations try to advance the science on asteroid formation in the Tau-Ceti System and are based on the latest laser drill technology, “borrowed” from the Corps.
While work is important, time is also spent on sports and fun rides, or having coffee with a friend and exploring the asteroid.
Of course such activities did not go unnoticed for long, so an inspection team from Exploration Corps is trying to figure out, what is going on.
And rumours have it, the ghosts of the older smugglers are still roaming the vicinity of their former headquarters.
